The Bose L1 System is Different From Conventional PS Systems
For a successful stage performance a good audience turnout is pretty essential, as well as one that is well disposed and friendly towards the entertainer. With that in place the next thing needed is a good sound system such as the Bose L1 system to project the performance out to the audience in a way that lets everyone hear it at its best.
The Bose L1 system is different from conventional systems. It can deliver sound to an audience in a way that minimises reverb and maximises consistency right across the auditorium. Even the people sitting on the extreme edges of room can hear performances with similar clarity to those sitting right in front of the Bose L1 system. The delivery is that good.
The secret of the Bose L1 system lies in a clever design that sends sound out on a wide horizontal sweep, but minimises its vertical range. This means that there is no reverberation caused by sound bouncing off the ceiling, as in most conventional systems. It also means that, because the Bose L1 system can deliver sound at close to a 180 degrees sweep, everyone will hear it, even those at the sides of the theatre.
Consistency is one of the secrets of the Bose L1 system. Conventional systems are unable to prevent sound energy being directed upwards. This results in unwanted reverb. There is also the need for monitor speakers, pointing towards the back wall to allow performers to hear themselves. This simply confounds the reverb problem.
Additionally, conventional sound systems experience a fairly rapid drop off of sound, which means that the people at the back of a room hear the sound much lower than those at the front, who are near deafened in order to allow some sound to reach the back.
The Bose L1 system has a much greater consistency of sound output. There is sound drop off, but it is much less rapid. This means that those at the front need not be so deafened, while those at the back can hear it at almost the same level. Because of the design, it also means that everyone, wherever placed in the room, will hear a similar level of tonally balanced sound volume.
The Bose L1 system looks a bit like a tall thin column. The speakers are arranged inside a vertical array with each speaker alternately angled slightly to the side. This allows the sound waves to emanate outwards in a much more evenly consistent manner, even for those behind the speaker array.
The L1 portable line array system started with the Bose L1 Model I. It progressed to the Bose L1 Model II, and then the Bose L1 MII Tonematch. The equipment not only scores highly against conventional speaker equipment in terms of quality, but also in terms of portability. It is light and easy to carry.
Anyone who has ever lugged guitar amplifiers around, coupled with huge speakers that seem to weigh a ton, will appreciate the Bose L1 system. There's much less equipment to carry around, and because it is so light, it means it takes so much less time to set up too. That, coupled with the sound control that performers have, makes the Bose L1 system an obvious choice for anyone who steps up on to a stage.
